Frequently Asked Questions

Every project begins with an initial design consultation to understand your vision, lifestyle, and functional needs. During this stage, we also discuss your budget expectations to ensure they align with our level of craftsmanship. If we’re a good fit, our design team develops a personalized mood board that captures the aesthetic direction of your space. Once the design retainer is received, the full design process begins — including detailed drawings, renderings, and material selections.

Yes. We charge a design retainer equal to 10% of the project value, which is fully credited toward your final balance. The retainer is non-refundable should you decide not to move forward with production.

Absolutely. We collaborate with many clients who already have their own interior designer. In fact, we encourage working with a designer if you’re completing a full-home renovation or new build — it allows for a more cohesive design experience.

Our design phase includes 3D renderings, up to three design revisions, custom paint and stain samples, and technical shop drawings that ensure precision before production begins.

The design stage typically takes three to four weeks, depending on the complexity of the project and scheduling availability for review meetings. Our goal is always to refine every detail so that the final result reflects the kitchen — or space — you’ve always envisioned.

Yes, we offer both. While virtual consultations are convenient for early stages, we recommend an in-person meeting at some point to review finishes and colours, as lighting conditions can alter the appearance of materials.

Yes. Our team provides guidance on appliance selection, space planning, and finish coordination. We also maintain partnerships with several of Canada’s leading appliance distributors, allowing our clients to access preferred pricing when purchasing through our partners.

Absolutely. We offer curated samples of cabinetry finishes, hardware, and materials to help you make confident selections for your project.

All of our cabinetry and furniture are handcrafted in our state-of-the-art 15,000 sq ft facility in Caledon, Ontario. Every project is built start to finish by our in-house team of skilled Cabinet and Furniture Builders.

Our cabinetry boxes are constructed from formaldehyde-free domestic maple plywood, UV-coated on both sides — never particle core. For wood veneers, we use only Select Grade A veneers that are custom pressed to ensure sequential grain matching. Painted doors are produced from premium HDF or MDF, chosen for stability and flawless finishing.

Our standard options are solid maple dovetail drawers or Blum Legrabox metal drawer systems — both engineered for durability and smooth function.

We specify only the best: Blum Movento undermount soft-close slides and Blum Blumotion soft-close hinges. This ensures silent, effortless motion and long-term reliability.

We offer both painted and stained finishes. For painted cabinetry, we use Italian-imported polyurethane paint — an automotive-grade finish known for its exceptional durability and smoothness. Stain finishes are hand-applied and carefully sanded to reveal the natural beauty of solid wood or veneer. All finishing is done in our closed spray booth, where every surface is hand-sanded and hand-finished to perfection.

Framed cabinetry features a visible front frame outlining each cabinet opening — a timeless, furniture-style look that adds depth and character. Frameless cabinetry offers a cleaner, contemporary aesthetic, with doors that align edge-to-edge for a seamless appearance and maximum storage efficiency.

Our team collectively brings over 150 years of experience in cabinetry and millwork. Every project undergoes rigorous in-house inspections before delivery, followed by a post-installation quality walkthrough to ensure your complete satisfaction. We achieve consistency through premium materials, state-of-the-art equipment, and the unmatched craftsmanship of our Cabinet and Furniture Builders.

Yes — all AWDS cabinetry and core components are produced entirely in-house, ensuring full control over quality, precision, and finish integrity.

Absolutely. We’d be happy to arrange a private visit so you can see your cabinetry in production and meet the team behind it.

Yes. AWDS offers comprehensive residential millwork solutions, including vanities, closets, wall paneling, bars, and custom furniture pieces — all designed and built to the same exacting standards as our kitchens.

We perform in-house colour matching for both paint and stain finishes. While we strive for the closest possible match, natural variations in wood species and aging mean that perfect matching cannot be guaranteed, as subtle differences will always exist between materials.

AWDS cabinetry is built to a standard few can match — truly bespoke and handcrafted one at a time. With 3/32″ reveals, domestic plywood interiors, and an aerospace-grade polyurethane finish, every cabinet embodies precision and permanence. Premium Blum hardware, meticulous craftsmanship, and a Lifetime Transferable Warranty ensure your cabinetry performs and endures for a lifetime.

We only use our own in-house installers when servicing Southwestern Ontario. This ensures that every installation meets our standards for precision, fit, and finish.

Installation time depends on the size and complexity of the project. Our installers scribe every piece for a seamless fit, minimizing the need for caulking. On average, a standard kitchen installation takes approximately five to six days.

Yes, absolutely. We’re happy to install handles or pulls that you’ve sourced independently.

Most appliance manufacturers recommend using their certified installers for panel-ready appliances, as using non-certified installers may void the warranty. However, our team can install the panels for an additional charge if you prefer.

Once your design is finalized, you’ll be assigned a dedicated Project Manager who will oversee your project from production through installation, ensuring everything runs smoothly and on schedule.

Yes. We take pride in providing a white-glove, concierge-level experience for our clients. Renovations can be stressful, and our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible by coordinating directly with your builder, designer, or contractor.

No. We do not perform demolition work. Existing cabinetry should be removed prior to delivery and installation of your new AWDS cabinetry.

We do not install countertops, sinks, or appliances directly. However, we work closely with trusted stone fabricators and appliance specialists, and we can facilitate communication with these trades to ensure proper coordination.

It is the client’s responsibility to protect flooring and other finishes prior to installation — typically by laying down Masonite or equivalent protection. Our delivery and installation teams are trained to treat every home with respect and take every precaution possible, but site preparation remains a shared responsibility.

We work collaboratively with our clients and any other trades involved to resolve any issues that arise. Renovations can be unpredictable, but our team is known for its flexibility and commitment to achieving the best outcome for the client.

Yes. Every project concludes with a post-installation inspection to ensure your cabinetry meets AWDS’s standards and your complete satisfaction.

Immediately. Our polyurethane finish is fully cured before it leaves our facility, unlike standard lacquer finishes that can take months to cure and continue to off-gas in the home.

Our kitchens start at $35,000. Every project is fully bespoke, and pricing varies based on materials, finishes, and complexity.

Yes. During the initial consultation, we review your goals and budget to ensure expectations align with our level of craftsmanship and quality.
