Artisan Woodworks & Design Studios (AWDS) is a Canadian designer and manufacturer of bespoke cabinetry and architectural millwork. From custom kitchens and framed inset cabinetry to walk-in closets, bathroom vanities and architectural built-ins, we combine thoughtful design, precision manufacturing and professional project management. Our philosophy is simple: exceptional cabinetry deserves an equally exceptional client experience.
The Story Behind AWDS
AWDS began with a frustrating experience during our founders’ own home renovation project. For a husband-and-wife team whose professional backgrounds were in healthcare and corporate leadership, that experience revealed an opportunity to do things differently.
One had worked as a Registered Nurse, where compassion, responsibility and attention to detail are fundamental. The other had led a successful national education business, bringing extensive experience in leadership, organizational accountability and client service. They believed homeowners deserved the same professionalism and respect from the trades that they had come to expect in their own fields.
That belief became the foundation of Artisan Woodworks & Design Studios. The vision was to build more than a custom cabinetry company. It was to create a business where skilled craftsmanship, dependable communication, courteous service and personal accountability were inseparable.
Today, those principles influence everything from the people we employ to how we design, manufacture and install our cabinetry.
Professionalism Beyond the Workshop
Inviting a company into your home requires trust. AWDS conducts regular criminal background checks on its installers and provides training in professional conduct, courtesy and customer service. We believe homeowners should feel confident in the people entering their property, not just the quality of the work being installed.
Our installation teams are expected to arrive prepared, communicate respectfully and treat clients, their families and their homes with consideration.
That same discipline applies to how we manage projects. We establish expectations, coordinate schedules and emphasize clear communication throughout the process. We understand that cabinetry installation often affects other trades and important milestones in a renovation or custom-home build.
Challenges can arise in any bespoke project. Our responsibility is to address them directly, communicate openly and remain accountable for the outcome. We do not take shortcuts at the expense of workmanship, and we never take the trust placed in us lightly.

Our work combines traditional cabinetmaking techniques with contemporary manufacturing technology.
Framed inset cabinetry is a particular specialty. Its precise reveals, integrated face frames and carefully considered proportions demand close coordination between design, engineering and production.
We bring the same technical expertise to frameless cabinetry, whether creating curved doors, integrated hardware solutions or complex architectural details.
By bringing design and manufacturing together under one roof, we have the freedom to explore more ambitious ideas and the expertise to bring them to life.
Bringing International Innovation to Canadian Cabinetry
The cabinetry industry is constantly evolving, and we believe our capabilities should evolve with it. AWDS regularly travels internationally to explore advances in cabinetry design, architectural hardware, manufacturing methods and materials.
We look for innovations that expand what we can offer our clients, rather than simply following trends in the local market. This approach has led AWDS to introduce new cabinetry solutions to Canada.
Among them is the Exedra2 Smart Pocket Door System, which AWDS was the first company to introduce to the Canadian market, as documented by its manufacturer. Our willingness to develop specialized solutions also extends to our own workshop, including the fabrication of custom brass produce drawers.
These innovations reflect our commitment to expanding the possibilities of bespoke cabinetry, whether through advanced hardware, specialized materials or original construction details. For us, progress means continually improving what we are capable of creating.
